QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

Sabanci University is expanding its research in the area of Integrated Advanced Manufacturing and Composite Processing Technologies. A new Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU-IMC) is recently launched as an industrial-scale research and technology development facility. The new SU-IMC provides facilities for component design, manufacture, assembly, product development, process prototyping, fundamental and applied research, incubation services and commercialization opportunities in integrated manufacturing and composite materials technologies. The SU-IMC invites applications for a full-time position for Manufacturing Engineer/NC Programmer in the area of Advanced Manufacturing. The candidates must have earned degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate an excellence in manufacturing technologies and research.  Candidates with interdisciplinary research interests in across all areas of advanced manufacturing and materials processing especially in robotic manufacturing, additive manufacturingprecision manufacturing and hybrid manufacturing, metrology and non-traditional processes are particularly encouraged to apply. 
 
Essential Requirements:
 
Qualifications and experience:
  • Have a BSc degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in Numerical Control (NC) Programming of machine tools.
  • Experience in Programming of CNC machines and industrial robots.
  • Information Technology skills, including the ability to use specialised packages, in addition to Microsoft Office etc.
  • Experience developing manufacturing methods for composite components used in industries such as aerospace, automotive etc.
Management Skills
  • Ability to continuously monitor and check results. Accommodate new developments in research projects to deal with the unpredictability in project planning.?
Communication Skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, report writing skills and experience of delivering presentations.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with experience of responding efficiently and effectively to phone and email enquiries.
Supporting staff performance
  • Ability to motivate high performance in others.
Problem solving and decision making
  • Ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving and draw the best from colleagues.
Project Management
  • Ability to assess and organise resources, and plan and progress work activities.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and liaise with other members of the research group over work progress. Supervise research team/activities where required.
  • Ability to respond to and manage unplanned events.
Personal effectiveness
  • Ability to update and acquire new skills and knowledge along with advances in the relevant subject area, including technical expertise and experience.

İŞ TANIMI

The Manufacturing Engineer / NC programmer  role has been developed so that experienced Manufacturing Engineers / NC programmers can deliver a robust and best practice manufacturing strategy supporting less experienced project engineers and graduate students. You will work to support the Advanced Manufacturing Group project teams at the SU-IMC in delivering conventional and non-conventional manufacturing R&D projects. This will include manufacturing method development, NC programming, work holding design and build, scoping R&D projects, mentoring junior staff, interacting with graduate students at MSc and PhD levels, report writing and general manufacturing engineering duties. The projects will be focused on improvement of manufacturing cost and quality, investigation and demonstration of novel manufacturing strategies, control and work holding methods and fixture design and build. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop  process planning for a given design
  • Design components and assemblies based on requirements
  • Develop CAD-CAM Software compatible NC programs for manufacture of composite and metal parts.
  • Design fixtures and tooling solutions.
  • Develop testing and inspection plans for quality control of manufactured components
  • Write supporting documents to contribute to and support the work of the Research Group such as reports, interim reports and proposals.
  • Interact with industrial partners.
  • Prepare papers for journals/presentations for internal and external use to disseminate research findings.
  • Analyse and record data to aid the design of future research and produce useful findings for stakeholders.
  • Presenting research findings.
  • Any other duties, relevant to the rank of the job.
Planning and Organising
  • Plan projects within a duration span from weeks up to a year. Use discretion to determine priorities, follow appropriate procedures and resolve any conflicts to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Coordinate and liaise with other members of the research group.
  • Maintain project plans in MS Project, and maintain an ordered list of priorities.
  • Plan activities several months in advance, to meet deadlines for distribution of project final reports and final presentations.
Resource Management
  • Capability to operate test hardware, and to maintain it in good working order.
  • Installation and operation of software for data acquisition, analysis and modelling.
Communication
  • Liaise with shop floor staff to plan and run machining trials.
  • Interaction with staff of all grades and roles, including delivery of clear and concise presentations.
