Composite Manufacturing and Testing Engineer

Sabanci University (SU), Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, are looking for self motivated composite engineers to be employed in SU-KordSA Composite Technologies Center of Excellence, CTC, which is an industrial-scale research and technology development facility helping all sectors in the field of composite materials and manufacturing technologies and provide an environment to support component design, manufacture, assembly and process prototyping. The CTC is capable of manufacturing in commercial level thermoset prepregs, provides facilities for graduate education, fundamental research, applied research, product development, incubation services and commercialization opportunities in composite technologies. The center has laboratory facilities divided into 8 distinct laboratories, including, Material Characterization, Wet Chemistry, Polymer Proccessing, Micro-Nano Manufacturing, Mechanical Characterization and non-Destructive Testing, Otoclave, Advanced Composite Laboratories.

• A BSc.  MSc, preferably PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Mechatronics Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Advanced computer skills and knowledge of engineering design and analysis programs such as CAD, Solid Works, ANYSIS, ABACUS, etc.  Excellent user of MS Office programs-Excel,Word, Powerpoint
• Good statistical analysis knowledge for data analysis and modeling
• Minimum 3 years experience or Ph.D in design, manufacturing and testing of composite materials. Project engineering and/or management experience is an asset.
• Having hands on experience in design, manufacturing and testing of composites, being knowledgeable on Resin Transfer Molding, Vacuum Infusion, and  prepreg and autoclave curing of composites.
• Solid experience in mechanical and thermal testing of composites including tensile, flexural, impact, fracture toughness, and fatigue, DSC, DMA, TGA, etc. 
• Eager to learn non destructive testing methods such as acoustic emission, Digital Image Correlation, and Thermograph and use these systems for testing composites. Previous experience on these methods would be a significant asset.   
• Self motivated and self functioning, and requiring minimum oversight.
• Strong communication skills as a team worker.
• Analytical thinking , result oriented , enthusiastic , fast in action but with detailed planning and good documentation , self motivated , positive and energetic ,creative , eager to learn continuously.
• No restriction of travelling.
• No military obligation for male candidates.

İŞ TANIMI

• Takes part in R&D team of SU-KordSA Composite Technologies Center of Excellence as composite design and testing engineer
• Prepare technical proposals for product specification, qualification tests, and materials specifications
• Evaluates customer technical specifications and drawings to determine process, and product applicability and determines the appropriate methods for fabricating and testing composites
• Prepare detailed parts cost estimates for labor, materials, tooling requirements, test specification and material selections for existing business and new business inquiries.
  Prepare bill of materials, and manufacturing instructions for producing engineering designs
  Hands-on manufacturing process development for Resin Transfer Molding, Vacuum Infusion and prepreg autoclave curing
• Design and manage the procurement/manufacture of tooling
• Develop ply patterns for composites to be manufactured
• Facilitates, plans and implements projects related to composite design and manufacturing
• Supporting manufacturing or building of prototype product or system, as directed; brainstorming with team members to develop new or improved product or process development; using computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
• Develops project schedules and budgets, coordinates necessary resources and activities to execute the projects on time and as budgeted, meeting the objectives of project.
• Reports to management with systematic documentation of work done for each phase of projects
• Works with PhD students and research scientists and help their projects in relation to composite materials.
