Job Description:

• Ensure constant flow of commercially successful varieties that is meeting our company Crop Strategy and consumer needs, by applying proven breeding methodologies in combination with technologies, such as Molecular Assisted Breeding, Genomics, Quantitative genetics, Predictive Breeding, DH’s, Statistics etc.,

• Advise, propose, and inform the Head of Breeding regarding Crop Strategy as well as participate in the specific crop planning by means of drawing up reports, giving feed-back and development proposals about the breeding program and achieved process of cucumber,

•  With the support from M&S and Global and Regional Product Specialist formulate, implement, and direct breeding goals within the crop improvement process in line with the Hybrid Profile & Crop plan,

• Prepare, and after approval of the Head of Breeding, implement specific crop budgets and operational plans for the breeding program,

• Manage, support and direct the breeding team and breeding related activities in line with the breeding plan, guidelines and procedures and corporate values,

• Support and provide all departments with all necessary technical and product knowledge through structural and ad hoc working relations in order to facilitate their processes and decision making,

• Manage, direct, and coordinate after approval of the Head of Breeding and in cooperation with HR, the personnel flow within the breeding team located on the site and external sites, including appraisal, training and development and career planning by using HR instruments, guidelines, procedures and advise in order to select and maintain competent employees and ensure an efficient and effective functioning breeding team.

Who you are:

• You are experienced breeder, result driven with customer focus. You are interested in modern methods for plant breeding and can work effectively in a close collaboration with pre-breeders, MAB scientists, crop coordinator and statisticians. You can set up breeding goals based on customer needs in a close collaboration with product development specialist. Furthermore, you are an eager entrepreneur who sees new possibilities and comes with creative ideas.

Qualifications:

• PhD (>5 years) or M.Sc. (>10 years) in plant breeding, genetics or closely related field,

• In depth working knowledge of molecular genetics, horticulture, agronomy, genetics, pathology,statistics, computer skills and physiology. knowledge of quantitative genetics is preferred,

• 5 or more years of experience in plant breeding,

• Ability to work independently,

• Strong communication skills between multidisciplinary and multicultural workgroups with problem solver character,

• Excellent managerial and organizational skills; ability to balance multiple tasks and achieve milestones,

• Functional Competencies: analytical thinking, convincing, innovation, entrepreneurship,

• Language skills: Fluent in English (must),

•  Ability to travel to key global market segments for trials and product evaluations.
