Design Engineer - Rotating Part & Airfoil Components - Production Technologies - Hybrid

GE Aerospace is offering the opportunity to work with the latest technologies and applications, specializing in aircraft engine design and analysis, in a technology base. Our location, Gebze Turkey Technology Center (TTC) in Kocaeli, is one of GE Aerospace's nine engineering centers throughout the world, supporting aviation-related R&D and innovation projects that expand with new investments. Our campus is in Gebze, Kocaeli.

The Engineer is an individual contributor 'hardware owning' engineer reporting to an Engineering Manager within the Aviation Engineering Division's Production Technologies team. As a hardware owner you will own all design engineering functions related to the production of assigned Commercial and Aero-derivative components in one of the following commodities:

Rotating Parts
Airfoils


In this role, you will be on the front lines of a new organization that is dedicated to improving the producibility, enhancing the Engineering-Supply chain relationship, and using SQDC to dramatically improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers' expectations. The role will involve solving manufacturing and producibility challenges while driving excellence through engineering and leadership characteristics.

Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes, on-going manufacturing support, cost outs and strategic improvements on production related processes for the assigned commodity.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • With guidance from senior engineering resources; execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Execute the engineering analysis and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles to improve manufacturability of assigned components.

  • Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines, manufacturing, quality and regularly communicate with commodity and industry experts to address delivery problems while promoting open and honest dialogue.

  • Travel to manufacturing sites to gain practical knowledge of hardware manufacturing.

  • Use engineering judgement to challenge entrenched processes and recommend improvements.

  • Use analytical thinking, technical experience, and mentoring from senior engineers to execute on project deliverables in order to meet business goals.

  • Provide support for vendor qualification, producibility improvements, and hardware delivery.


 Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related engineering field.


Desired Characteristics:

  • Previous experience in design of Aerospace components.

  • Experience with ANSYS and NX.

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, especially of Aerospace components.

  • Familiarity in ASME Y14.5 or practical experience with GD&T.

  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.

  • Interest in being a self-starter with a passion for problem solving and driving solutions.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to document, plan, and execute programs.

  • Established project management skills.

  • Fundamental understanding of turbomachinery system design.

The Production Technologies (PT) design engineer is responsible for the new-make manufacturing of their part.  This includes building supplier relationships to improve producibility, reduce losses, and reduce scrap rates and may include on-site support and troubleshooting.

The PT design engineer will lead PPRs, Class II producibility improvement & cost reduction projects; will own SPS/SPR and S-065 MRB dispositions.  The PT engineer is also responsible for building a relationship with the LCE hardware owner to share new or unusual manufacturing conditions & process changes and to understand part field performance and manufacturing impact on part performance and ICA.
