QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose:
- Assess the feasibility, safety, and productivity of mine locations.
- Plan, manage and optimise the extraction of surface and underground deposits.
- Ensures implementation of relevant exploration technical standards, apprises, ranks, and recommend target areas for exploration licenses.
- Ascertain extraction risks.
- Confirm compliance to international standards
Main Tasks &Accountabilities
- Makes periodic visits to field sites to ensure proper implementation of technical standards and field procedures.
- Provides key input data for the annual departmental program and budget submissions.
- Oversee costing and organising supplies.
- Ensure that all equipment used, and operations are performed in a safe manner.
- Keeps abreast of technical advances by perusing technical literature, attending seminars and conferences, and maintaining contacts with other engineers outside the Company.
- Assessing the feasibility and the potential for commercial benefit of new sites.
- Plan and deliver high quality proposals and bids.
- Monitoring and evaluating of mining performance
- Training and supervision of staff
- Managing budgets
- Deputizes for the Mine Manager during periods of absence.
- Carries out other similar or related duties as directed.
- Act in a safe manner in the workplace always taking immediate action to prevent unsafe behaviours. Inform the local supervisor of the at-risk behaviours.
- Ensure conformity to all current regulations, standards and statutory inspections required during mining.
Working Environment:
50% outside, 8 – 12 hours shifts, or as required by Management, international travels
Education Level – Minimum Preferred:
- A BSc / BEng / CEng. Engineering degree or equivalent
- Registered as a Pr. Eng.
- A Certificate of Competency will be advantageous
Licences:
- International driver’s license
- Off-road driving course desirable
Work Experience :
At least 10 years’ experience in opencast and underground mining operations for a range of commodities in different settings. Gold and noble metals preferably, and base metals.
Skills Required:
- Effective communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and integrated team environment.
- Open communication style.
- Possess a positive attitude at all times and good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Business and commercial experience.
- Literate with mine planning software and Modelling skills, e.g. Datamine and/or Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan, Micromine and Whittle amongst others. Similar programs to be discussed.
- Stope optimisation
- Excellent report writing, and communication skills across all levels
- MS Office, PowerPoint, and Gantt charts,
- Must be physically fit
Language:
Fluent in written & verbal English.
