Heat Treatment Engineer

Principal Accountabilities

• Assess and maintain CQI-9 compliance of all heat treatment processes both on site within GKN plant and subcontract facility including the management of all actions as necessary and drive CI planning for each HT process.

 • Project manage the installation, commissioning and start-up of new heat treatment and associated processes/equipment including training of all personnel at all levels from operation through to engineering.

• Advise, manage and implement appropriate standard operating, quality assurance, safety and environmental procedures to regulate the work of the manufacturing teams.

• Establish, optimise and implement operating procedures to improve productivity, quality and cost performance.

• Assess and advise on technical and operational training requirements for manufacturing team members to ensure the provision of a competent workforce for all current and new processes (e.g. lead technical support on Olympia training program).

• To ensure that process expertise is shared across the Business.

• Provide the required professional technical input on the routine monitoring and control of processes by setting and ensuring that appropriate sampling and testing routines are carried out to meet the requirements of internal (QA; internal customer) and external customer/international standards.

• Act as a focal point for requests for projects, guidance, information, trouble-shooting etc. in his/her area of responsibility, both internally and in response to customer quality concerns.

• Provide technical input to and resource for team problem solving, ensuring that all customer key characteristics are covered and reflected within all company documents ensuring that our PFMEA’s are maintained and updated on a regular basis whilst focusing on making our processes/controls continually more stable, robust and capable.

• Assist with the organisation, implementation and evaluation of works trials.

External Customers - to understand requirements, specifications, resolve problems etc.
Manufacturing, Engineering and Technical Management, Staff and Operatives at the works - to monitor production, discuss technical and quality issues and implement trials and developments.
Regional Product Process Centre - to discuss and support new product and or process development.

Knowledge and Experience

Metallurgical qualification and 5 years working experience in heat treatment, preferably in automotive or aerospace.

Applicant should also have and be able to demonstrate knowledge of lean tools, a keen focus on continuous improvement and an understanding of maintenance techniques e.g. TPM.

The chosen applicant must be passionate and highly self-motivated to deliver the principle accountabilities within this description.
