Lead Research Scientist in Perovskite Solar Cells

The Center:  ODTU-GUNAM is a multi-disciplinary center of excellence in the area of solar energy science and technology. ODTU-GUNAM became the leading and most comprehensive national center of Turkey in the development of solar energy technologies including photovoltaic, concentrating solar thermal, and cross-cutting technologies such as high-performance buildings, smart grids, and smart cities. ODTU-GUNAM ranked 1st among the national center of excellences and 8th among all research institutes and universities in receiving Horizon Europe funds.

The Position: We are looking for a focused and highly motivated individual to contribute and potentially lead a dynamic and growing team. The team focuses on the fabrication of high-efficiency large-area perovskite solar cells and modules in the context of national and international projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabrication of perovskite solar cells with high power conversion efficiency
• Improvements in device stability of perovskite solar cells through detailed material and device understanding
• Development of fabrication processes, material characterization and reliability testing capabilities
• Capable of following rapid developments in the field of perovskite solar cells
• Designing and testing solar cells in various sizes
• Proposal and report writing as well as presentation of research results at conferences
• Regularly maintain research records, conceptualizing, executing, and interpreting experiments
• Identify critical research pathways through the assessment of internal results and literature reviews
• Take responsibility for maintaining lab equipment and following safety protocols
• Close collaboration with our national/international partners to meet project needs
• Provide guidance to staff and students

Competences and Qualification Requirements

• 10-year experience in solar energy research fields (all experiences after undergraduate level)·Must have a PhD degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, or related fields with in-depth knowledge of materials (especially perovskites), device physics, and processing
• 5+ years of applicable experience working with fabrication tools
• Competence in characterization and analysis methods: XRD, UV-Vis-NIR, FTIR, UPS, XPS, NMR, PL, I-V, etc.
• Competence in the use of most of the following core tools: gloveboxes, fume hoods, vacuum systems, annealing furnaces, and spectrometers
• Hands-on experience with one or multiple of the following techniques is preferred: nanocrystal synthesis, ALD or sputtering, electrochemical methods, thin film fabrication (such as spin coating, blade coating, or slot-die coating).
• Previous experience in fabricating p-i-n or n-i-p type perovskite solar cells with high efficiency and experience in device characterization is highly preferred 
• Good skills in time management, experiment design, and data analysis
• Good communication skills in written and oral English
• Ability to work in a team as well as independently without supervision
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

The Location: ODTU-GUNAM is located in METU, Ankara. This is a great place to live because 1) availability of housing across the city with reasonable rents, top schools in the country for all levels of education, and a safe city with many possible activities. METU campus resides in a beautiful student & faculty made forest with great indoor and outdoor facilities. The campus is very close to the city center with ease of access to public transportation.
