Economic Research – Junior Economist

We are seeking a 'Junior Economist' for our client which is operating banking sector.

Description of the Department’s Responsibilities:

Economic Research Department is responsible for conducting research activities that serve and support the core operation areas of the Bank including the Advisory Services.

Within this context two main areas are the focal points of the Economic Research coverage:

Macro Economy;

• Tracking key macroeconomic indicators of Turkey and major economies and producing regular pieces
• Modelling macro indicators and preparing projections based on scenarios
• Writing regular and ad-hoc reports on macroeconomic data and news flow
• Supporting the other focal research points with the macro perspective
• Preparing presentations for internal and external clients
• Commenting financial markets developments

Development Economics: 

• Following the development themes
• Modelling Turkey’s needs in terms of development themes
• Reporting global developments

Description of the Position:

Understanding and carrying out the research need, building models and regularly reporting the results will be among the major activities. 

Ideal candidate is expected to follow major data flow, including markets, overall economy and the financial sector. In line with the flexible nature of the advisory research activities, the candidate is expected to model relationship and linkages between macroeconomic indicators and development topics with advanced analytical methods. The content variation will require flexibility and high adaption skills due to the project-based nature of the advisory research.

Major Responsibilities:

• Regularly following major macroeconomic data releases and writing reports
• Building databases upon need on macro and development subjects including climate and environment
• Examining the data and conducting macroeconomic models
• Assisting to macroeconomic modelling team
• Handling complicated data, creating charts and presentations
• Contributing to regular and ad-hoc reports and projects of the team
• Following most recent literature of the international institutions and adapting them to the team’s activity
• Enriching the research coverage with international perspective
• Modelling linkages between macro and development themes

Essential Qualifications:

• A postgraduate degree in economics or/and finance or/and econometrics or/and statistics
• Good understanding of economic concepts and principles and self-motivation in economic research
• Up to 3 years of experience on economic research
• Advance in computer skills, knowledge of database tools, such as Reuters, Bloomberg, etc.
• Familiarity with, E-views, Stata, Python, R and SQL applications
• Proficiency in quantitative methods and big data and data/text mining will be a strong competitive advantage
• Experienced in writing and delivering reports based upon need and following strict client deadlines
• Excellent command of English both in written and verbal terms.
