QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

1.  Introduction

  

The Singapore Embassy in Ankara is hiring a full-time Interpreter, reporting to the Deputy Chief of Mission. The primary role will be as follows:

  • Provide accurate consecutive interpretation from Turkish to English, and vice-versa, for official meetings, events, visits and other official activities.
  • Provide accurate translation of written content from Turkish to English, and vice-versa.
  • Provide interpretation and translation duties in support of official visits outside Ankara.

In addition, the Interpreter will also carry out the following:

  • Monitor and provide timely political and economic updates from media and official sources.
  • Assist with the maintenance of databases and drafting of official correspondences.
  • Carry out administrative duties in support of the planning or hosting of meetings, events, visits and other official activities including official visits outside Ankara.
  • Assist with consular-related issues, including communicating with Overseas Singaporeans in need of consular assistance, and providing interpretation and translation duties in support of consular cases as necessary.

 

2.  Requirements

  

Qualifications and Experience

  • Interpretation and translation certification is required.
    • (Please note: this can include either a Bachelor's degree programme, a minor in interpretation or an equivalent program that is certified and recognised internationally or in Türkiye.)
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred in either Translation and Interpretation, English Language, Journalism, Mass Communication, Economics or Political Science.
  • One-year relevant working experience is preferred.
  • Excellent proficiency in Speaking/Reading/Writing for English and Turkish languages required (Please note: Language proficiency will be tested.)

Skills

  • Able to provide consecutive interpretation between Turkish and English.
  • Have mastery of professional terminology (e.g., political, economic, military, cultural, social media) both in English and Turkish.
  • Have a competent understanding of Turkish politics and society.
  • Able to process information effectively and provide analysis on developments in Türkiye.
  • Competent IT skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Other Requirements

  • Able to travel overnight with the Embassy's diplomatic staff for official visits outside of Ankara.
  • Able to support the Embassy after working hours, when required.
  • Legal status to reside and work in Türkiye.


3.       Salary and Benefits

Salary

  • Starting gross monthly salary of between USD 960 to USD 1,200 (Please note that 15% would be deducted from the employee's monthly salary as personal social security contribution.)
  • Annual salary increment

Bonuses

  • Annual bonuses will range between 1 to 3 months’ salary.

Other Remunerations

  • Overtime allowances
  • Daily allowances for official visits outside of Ankara
  • Employer's contribution to employee's social security
  • Annual vacation leave, starting from 14 working days
  • Medical leave, in line with local laws
