Supplier Quality Engineer

Position Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible to ensure the suppliers are complying to SFA’s Supplier Quality Policy and requirements and have effective manufacturing practices and procedures to ensure a continuous flow of defect free parts into SFA production facilities.

Essential Duties &

Responsibilities

·   Serve as the liaison between the company and the suppliers in managing and deploying the Automotive Industries Action Group (AIGI) Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) 4^th edition for assigned suppliers and commodities, including hosting Quality Valves for program milestones, and issuing Part Submission Warrants (PSW).

·   Communicate and work cooperatively with customers and suppliers to ensure products and services exceed customer expectations.

·   Perform supplier process and quality system audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audit finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventative actions.

·   Facilitate disciplined problem solving (i.e., Global 8D) with suppliers on all quality issues.  Ensure timely resolution of supplier failure, corrective actions, and preventative actions.

·   Responsible for supplier continuous improvement activities to improve management and manufacturing processes for improvements in quality and responsiveness (on-time delivery).

·   Initiate debits in the form of cost recoveries with suppliers.

·   Maintain inputs for supplier scorecard regarding quality defects and on time delivery.

·   Interact with Quality Control, Purchasing, Product Engineering, and Production to understand and quantify problems that can be conveyed back to the supplier.

·   Develop suppliers such that they can control their processes using Process Flow Diagrams, PFME’s, Process Control Plans, Gauge Calibration & MSA, Operator Inspection and Document of Exception Reports, Standardized Work, Capability Studies, Preventive Maintenance, Team Based Problem Solving, and other Lean & Six Sigma Strategies.

·   Report status of supplier non-conformances, corrective actions, audit results, and on-site visits regularly to Director of Quality.

·   Operate standard measurement and test equipment regularly as required.

·   Organize field actions, campaigns, containments.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

·      Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Engineering, or a related field. 

·      Minimum 5-8 years experience working in a quality assurance function with OEM and automotive suppliers utilizing the AIAG core requirements: PPAP, APQP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.

·      Significant experience with firearm components and/or development of machined components.

·      Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) required.

·      Background in supplier development/management and experience working with or for a tier automotive supplier.

·      ISO, IATF and/or auditor experience preferred.

·      SSGB or SSBB certification preferred.

·      ASQ CQE or CQA preferred.

·      Problem solving experience utilizing Global 8D, Six Sigma, etc.
