Position Summary 

 Manage the operational activities of the department in the field to include: Mud application as per the approved mud program, keeping stocks and daily inventory on well basis 

 Duties and Responsibilities (Including QHSE)

• Monitor the properties of the mud system and make recommendations for the treatments to maintain mud properties within the specifications outlined in mud program approved by Customer. 

• Display usage and cost information. Report Current mud inventory on daily basis 

• Maintain current records of daily consumption, daily cost and inventory. Order materials as required to maintain adequate stocks on location upon approval of Customer’s representative at site. 

• Work closely with mud technician and/or rig personnel to obtain the optimum performance from the solids removal equipment. 

• Responsible for its personnel during the performance of the Work and keep records for his personnel performance. 

• Monitoring stock levels of chemicals and placing orders whenever required 

• Checking the Mud Tanks before every operation 

• Getting the drilling fluid ready before the operation as per the operator company’s requirements 

• Testing the mud and analyzing its suitability 

• Monitoring the condition of the drilling fluid during the operation and checking if there’s a loss or kick 

• Changing the mud weight during operation as per the company representative’s order 

• Making necessary suggestions about mud to the company representative in order to optimize efficiency and safety of the operation 

• Preparing periodic reports in a timely manner 

• Ensuring that the chemicals are kept under suitable conditions 

• Preparing field tickets 

• Supervising junior engineers and drilling fluid technicians and making decisions about their rotations, work schedules, annual leaves and overtimes 

• Following Viking International Limited’s QHSE&T policies and procedures in order to create a safe working environment at all times 

• Performing other related duties as required and assigned. 

• When required by the work schedule, Field engineer shall provide replacement personnel during periods of absence whether due to sickness or leave 

• Responsible for its personnel to work at a site or installation which is under the control of Operation with all health, safety, environmental and applicable administrative regulations and arrangements of the Customer 

• Responsible for requesting mud products as required to maintain adequate stocks, maintain and repairement of lab testing and field equipment such as vehicles, containers etc. 

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

 Experience Required 

• Undergraduate Degree required, preferably in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering 

• Minimum of 3 years verifiable experience as Drilling Fluids Engineer 

• Well Control Certificate 

• Work experience in an international and diverse cultural environment 

• Strong troubleshooting and problem identification skills 

• Strong technical background in all aspects of Drilling Fluids 

• Excellent leadership, interpersonal relations, communication and management skills 

• Ability to handle multiple tasks on a daily basis and to follow-up on all tasking to completion 

• Ability to claim and accept ownership of processes, and to provide appropriate leadership when called upon 

• Proficiency with MS Office. 

 Technical or Vocational Education & Training (Including HSE) 

• Possess a Petroleum Engineering Degree or equivalent 

• Be fluent in spoken and written English 

• Proficient computer skills in office software and company proprietary software
