QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

Equipment Manager (Civil Construction)

General Summary

We are looking for an Equipment Manager (Civil Construction), who shall be responsible for managing the operations of all equipment, maintenance, personnel and equipment performance to meet the business needs of our several ongoing projects in Africa.


Essential Job Accountabilities

1. Lead and administer the maintenance, repair, and management of all equipment for assigned projects in accordance with company equipment standards to ensure company standards and goals are met.

2. Implement department objectives and strategies to maintain an effective equipment program within the boundaries of the Equipment Department policy.

3. Act as a technical advisor to field equipment personnel to ensure tasks are completed on time.

4. Assist management team with final equipment budgets and potential equipment purchases in order to meet Project budgetary goals.

5. Maintain communications with local equipment dealers and appropriate vendors to ensure that dealer support, repair decisions, costs, and warranty recovery meet expectations.

6. Provide overall direction regarding resources including: facilities, staffing, training, compensation, organizational structure, and performance management/development to ensure a trained, motivated and engaged workforce.

7. Manage and direct effective maintenance and repair, equipment safety programs, and equipment utilization to ensure equipment safety and budget goals are met.

 

 

Education

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent industry experience


Work Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the construction equipment field, preferably in equipment superintendent-type role
  •  3+ years of management experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven working knowledge of the function, operation, and maintenance of construction equipment
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices (concrete placement, grading, crane operations, material handling, etc.) and business principles, particularly asset management principles
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office products (Word, Excel, etc.) and scheduling software and familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Ability to properly manage and prioritize resources, people and projects
  • Sound decision-making ability with the experience to balance consensus against authority as appropriate
  • Team player, with strong leadership skills, who can operate effectively within a matrix management environment
  • Ability to work in a high production environment and respond quickly/effectively under pressure and deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively disseminate information

  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment
  • Enthusiasm of understanding and going alone together with the local culture.
  • Occasional travel may be required
