Intekno Technology Transfer
Corporation is a member
of the Intekno Group
of Companies.
The origin of the Group dates back to 1987 when International Technology & Knowledge Company was founded by Mr. Halil Kulluk as a spin-off from the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh; Pennsylvania, USA. This company acted as a bridge between the Manufacturing & Engineering Technology Application Center of CMU and the local companies which sought technical support from the academic environment. Hence, Intekno was actively involved in facilitating
implementation platforms for technology transfer projects between the university and industry in the fields of robotics, computer aided design, and computer integrated manufacturing, artificial intelligence and expert systems. Through the industrial projects Intekno collaborated closely with the Engineering Design Research Center and the Center for Entrepreneurial Development at Carnegie Mellon.
The applied research and development projects were mainly in the fields of Design Procedures, Robotic Design and Implementation, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Rapid Prototyping, Design & Entrepreneurship. Training - or we preferably called ‘Knowledge Transfer’ activities - was an integral part of this company’s activities. The experts of Intekno continuously carried out training sessions through classroom teaching, seminars, symposia & workshops which included hands-on training.
This spin-off company from Carnegie Mellon University acted as the foundation for Intekno Technology Transfer Corporation which was later started by Kulluk, in Istanbul, Turkey during the early months of 1991.
As a native of Istanbul, Kulluk paid special attention to establishing a strong foundation for knowledge transfer techniques and methods to be used in the Turkish environment – applying utmost attention to cultural nuances. One of the first projects conducted was the design and implementation of an expert system for a multinational company in Turkey which operated in the field of telecommunications. Later on, due to developing and rapidly increasing market demand more emphasis was directed to steelmaking and mining industries. Today, Intekno enjoys its favorable market position as the top technology transfer company in Turkey.
Recognizing the need for creativity, design and innovation in Turkey, Intekno’s Board of Directors made a major decision to move into innovation related topics in 2003. Since then, the first ‘city-center’ incubator was established within the premises of the company. In 2005, Intekno was one of the first member companies of the newly established National Innovation Initiative (NII) of Turkey. To support the activities of the NII, Intekno started Innovation and Entrepreneurship Seminars & Workshops. Later in 2006, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Symposia were also started. To date many seminars, workshops and training sessions were conducted. In addition, the above-mentioned symposia have become a ‘landmark’ in Turkey. After the success of the first four symposia, the Fifth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Symposium were conducted in Doha, Qatar on June 16, 2008. These bi-annual symposium series and workshops will continue to transfer knowledge and help interested parties implement their specific projects through the information gained and technology transfer techniques offered by Intekno.
Since its inception, Intekno Group has been able to identify and promote opportunities ahead of its competitors. – Through strategic applications of technology and commercial capabilities. It is our passion to develop business ideas into viable commercial products and/or services which enable us to move forward together with our business associates and clients.
