Job Description:
As an Electronics Design Engineer, you will work for the development of Li-Ion Battery Packs, Battery Management Systems (BMS) and Battery Charging Systems with a focus on safety and reliability objectives for development of functionally safe lithium ion battery systems.
Your Role:
- Specify, design, develop and test the battery management systems (BMS) and/or battery charger hardware for lithium ion battery systems.
- Develop electronic control units for battery management systems with a start-to-finish ownership of hardware – from requirements to design, development, verification, and prototype manufacturing
- In charge of schematic and PCB layout design and review
- Battery junction box electrical & electronics development
- Design and carry out cell level, board level, module level, pack level and system level prototype verification tests for proof of concept
- Analyze test data and reports to determine if the design meets functional and performance requirements
- Troubleshoot and help root cause any issues that occur in the prototype line
- Preparing bill of material(BOM)
- Define and then follow streamlined hardware development and verification processes complying with related standards to support the certification & qualification of safety critical systems.
- Prepare battery electronics & hardware requirements, design, verification and test documents in accordance with the related standards process for the hardware you are responsible for.
- Drive the resolution of cross-functional issues including those related to architecture (performance, power consumption, thermal behavior), development (schematic design, PCB layout and overall system integration), and production (quality, failure analysis, manufacturing, cost).
- Simulate and design the hardware you are responsible for and create hardware production documentation.
- Support at system buildup, commissioning, component and integration tests
· Close cooperation with the software, systems, safety & reliability and mechanical engineers for battery system development.
· Assist the certification process for safety critical battery hardware.
- Submit and lead creative ideas to improve Aspilsan value proposition in energy storage.
Qualifications:
- Degree (BSc, MSc, PhD) in Electronics Engineering or similar
- 3+ years’ experience developing electronics design, high voltage electronic hardware for Battery Management Systems or power electronic hardware for Charger Systems.
- Strong fundamentals in electronic circuit design/development with microcontroller-based embedded system
- · Experience in using schematic capture (e.g. Altium Designer) and circuit simulation software
- Proficient PCB layout experience is strongly preferred
- Experience with board layout and designing circuits for operation in EMI environments such as automotive, military or similar environments
- Good knowledge of inter-module communications protocols
- Experience with all types of lab instruments: oscilloscope, data acquisition systems, etc.
- Strong analytical skills and structured approach
- Excellent communication skills
- Team player, confident in technical discussions, ability to organize and “get things done”
- Structured way of working, high sense of responsibility, Hands-On attitude
- Very good English language skills (written and spoken)
Bonus Qualifications: - Hands-On experience for HV battery management systems and lithium ion battery packs.
- Professional experience in the development of functional safety hardware (DO-254, ARP4754, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, DO-160, ISO 26262, IEC 61508)
- Requirements-based design experience (preferably using DOORs)
- Strong understanding of battery gauging algorithms and how hardware design decisions influence SOC and SOH accuracy
