QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION
The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for an IT Support Officer (ITSO).
Main purpose of the job:
The successful candidate will respond to customer requests as part of the IT team within Corporate Services, working alongside the IT Manager and IT Support Officer to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in line with FCDO policies. The role will also support the ongoing technology needs of Embassy staff and stakeholders, in coordination with the UK Help Desk. The jobholder will need to balance and prioritize support calls and workload effectively, demonstrate strong communication skills and attention to detail, and be able to work well under pressure.
IT experience, or a strong interest in IT combined with enthusiasm and willingness to learn new skills, is essential.
Roles and responsibilities:
- IT Service Desk and Customer Support: Respond to IT support requests from Embassy staff, diagnose hardware and software issues, provide timely first-line support, escalate incidents where required, and ensure users receive clear and professional guidance.
- Hardware, Software and Equipment Management: Support the setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of laptops, desktops, printers, mobile devices and LFIT IT equipment, ensuring assets are recorded, maintained and used in line with FCDO policies and procedures.
- Systems, Network and Operational Support: Assist with routine checks, basic network connectivity issues, account and access support, and coordination with the UK Help Desk to resolve technical issues affecting business continuity.
- Compliance, Security and Information Management: Follow FCDO IT security, information management and data handling policies, support good cyber hygiene across the office, and help ensure IT processes and records are kept accurate and up to date.
- Teamwork, Learning and Continuous Improvement: Work collaboratively with the IT Manager, IT Support Officer, Corporate Services colleagues and the wider FCDO network, contributing to process improvements and developing IT knowledge through training and practical experience.
- Diplomatic Post: Responsible for the safe receipt, handling, registration and dispatch of diplomatic mail bags in accordance with official guidance.
Ad Hoc: Perform ad-hoc duties as required by the role, occasionally involving travel or out of regular working hours.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Fluency in English and Turkish (both oral and written, minimum C1 level CEFR*).
- Previous experience providing basic hardware support, troubleshooting IT equipment, or supporting users in an IT environment.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally and helpfully with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload, work with limited supervision, and meet agreed deadlines.
- Ability to follow instructions, respond accurately to requests, and write clear messages, updates and guidance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members and wider teams to support shared objectives.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams and basic Copilot.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Working knowledge of Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI.
- Practical working experience with AI tools (Copilot, GPT, etc.), including agents and advanced use cases.
