Responsibilities

• Conducts technical and quality assessments at suppliers utilizing inputs: supplier ratings, 8Ds, plant site requirements, new product technologies required etc. Track open issues and noncompliance elements to closure.
• Monitor supplier quality and overall performance evaluating supplier rating results, supplier nonconforming material reports, and quality related key performance indicators (KPI's), corrective/preventive action responses and root-cause investigations in order to develop effective actionable information.
• Works with the supplier when performance ratings do not meet Gates requirements (ie code red suppliers) for necessary improvements. Reinforces and drives the need with suppliers to develop their own improvement plans.
• Identifying and appropriately implementing statistical engineering tools and techniques to evaluate and implement supplier process capability and technical performance.
• Works with and guides common processes, Gates SCM metrics and supplier excellence program.
• Drive and reinforce the usage and management of Gates Supplier Portal (eSP) information and tools. Support improvement in Gates Supplier Portal toolbox to meet needs of the business.
• Manage and maintain Gates SQM controlled documents, policies, procedures and forms.
• Supports and assists suppliers to reduce total cost by eliminating waste in the supply chain process. Use 6 sigma and lean manufacturing/lean enterprise tools to drive the results.
• Fosters cohesive collaborative relationships with Gates stakeholders to meet the needs of Gates globally from its supply base.
  

Qualifications

• University degree preferred in mechanical engineering with good management abilities or equivalent work experience.
• Must have minimum of five years experience in a quality assurance environment in senior capacity; a broad understanding of the automotive and industrial quality systems required to ensure requirements are set forth to meet world-wide customer needs.
• ISO/IATF 16949 Supplier Auditor Certification. Sound knowledge of GD&T.
• A strong working knowledge of the quality assurance tools (PPAP, APQP, FMEA, DOE, SPC, etc) needed in supplier quality.
• A strong working knowledge of problem solving tools (KANBAN, Poka-Yoke, 8-D).
• Broad knowledge of various manufacturing processes, understanding manufacturing capabilities and limitations of various processes, and commodities as they apply to Gates products.
• VA/VE and Six Sigma Green Belt certification an asset.
• Able to travel extensively to supplier.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills; self-starter; ability to interact with all levels of management and supply base.
• Certified quality engineer (CQE) and certified quality auditor (CQA) status is an advantage.
