Social Specialist

International Infrastructure & Construction Project

We are seeking an experienced Social Specialist to implement social impact management measures and build constructive stakeholder relationships on a large-scale international infrastructure and construction project. This role is central to how the project manages its relationship with affected communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement and monitor project social management plans and commitments.

• Assess potential impacts on local communities, including access restrictions, disruption to services and effects on vulnerable groups.

• Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities with community liaison and construction teams.

• Conduct consultations and ensure that community concerns are accurately documented and considered.

• Review social risks arising from changes to project activities and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

• Monitor social grievances and support timely, documented resolution with responsible teams.

• Coordinate with resettlement, gender and environmental specialists on issues requiring joint action.

• Conduct field reviews and monitor contractor compliance with relevant social requirements.

• Prepare social monitoring reports and maintain consultation and action-tracking records.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Law, Development Studies, Social Sciences or a related field.

• Minimum 12 years of professional experience, including 8 years in social impact management and stakeholder relations on large construction projects.

• Demonstrated expertise in social impact assessment and management.

• Experience working with diverse communities and identifying the needs of vulnerable or disadvantaged groups.

• Familiarity with relevant international lender standards, including IFC and EBRD requirements.

• Strong consultation, interviewing, analysis and report-writing skills.

• Experience on international infrastructure projects would be advantageous.

• Good written and spoken English for reporting and coordination with international stakeholders.

• Relevant local-language capability would be an advantage.

• Sound judgement, cultural awareness and the ability to handle sensitive information professionally.
