The Work You'll Do:
A Software Engineer applies a systematic approach to the development, delivery, maintenance, and operation of software products and services. This role will work with others across the business to understand customer needs and develop high value solutions. Software Engineers are accountable for the design and implementation of solutions that meet software functional and non-functional requirements and adhere to established development standards. Throughout the lifecycle, the Software Engineer is a consultant to others in their area(s) of expertise and they continually develop skills relevant to their role.
More specifically you will:
· Competent in SDLC and an active participant in all major activities (Planning, Stand Up, Story Time, etc.)
· Development skills using TDD and CI practices
· Function competently as an individual contributor, completing tasks of different sizes independently
· Collaborate with Product Managers, Product Owners, Development
Managers, Quality Assurance, Experience Design, and other technical staff to refine requirements and designs
· Participate on cross functional teams to deliver solutions from the point of inception through customer delivery
· Seize opportunities to improve processes, standards and practices
· Work as a team member and with more senior developers on complex stories & tasks
· Pair program effectively with more junior & senior developers
· Develop programs consistent with Sovos coding standards & conventions
· Competent in at least one Sovos application
· Find and update relevant documentation when developing
· Able to triage and resolve simple engineering escalations
· Work with other team members to solve complex problems
· Capable of troubleshooting issues & bugs within their application of expertise
· Lead one of our development teams - be the technical point of contact for our Product Managers and guide the team in planning our Iterations
· Ability to assist in the process of producing accurate estimations using high level requirements
· Develop and enhance the user experience of our applications
· Collaborate in a fast-paced agile environment under tight deadlines to “ship” new releases each sprint
· Take part in an active culture of learning by exploring new technologies, participating in knowledge shares, attending conferences, and collaborating with local developer bootcamps
· Implement backend business logic using Java 8
What We Need From You:
· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
· 3+ years of successfully working in a team oriented development organization
· Expertise in the following technologies and frameworks:
o Java EE/Jakarta EE
o EJB (Enterprise Java Beans)
o JPA (Java Persistence Api)
o JMS (Java Message Service)
o Web Services (SOAP, REST)
o JSF (Java Server Faces)
o JSON/XML
o Experience and understanding of CI/CD principles
o Memory usage, garbage collection, CPU usage and thread usage analysis and optimization.
o Knowledge of SDLC and Agile methodologies (Scrum)
o Strong analytical, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
o Strong technical documentation and verbal/written communication skills
· Essential Job Functions:
o Interact effectively with teammates, colleagues and customers
o Comprehend and communicate complex concepts
o Concentrate, analyze and resolve complex problems
o Utilize technology (e.g. phone systems, computer hardware and software applications) to fulfill work requirements
