QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION
Context and environment:
The British Council’s region of Wider Europe is very diverse, stretching from the Western Balkans to Central Asia. Our top priority countries within it are Turkey, Russia and Israel, and it includes many of the countries of the former Soviet Union and former Yugoslavia.
Turkey is a Tier 1 country for the British Council. As a key – if controversial – candidate for EU accession, it is of immense importance to the EU and Europe generally. Although its economy shrunk after the 2008 financial crisis, it has bounced back very quickly and is growing. This economic development is set to continue on the back of a highly dynamic private sector.
The British Council has been operating in Turkey since 1940. We have over 50 staff located in two cities (Ankara and Istanbul) and active outreach through partners in cities across the country.
We are ambitious in Turkey to build on the British Council’s respected and trusted brand by responding to new opportunities from government, business and individuals for high quality English language learning and qualifications, engaging new audiences through a world class arts program from the UK, strengthening collaboration with UK in higher education and vocational skills development through policy dialogue and partnerships, providing new marketing services to UK higher education institutions and offering UK experience for education and social development reform in support of Turkey’s EU pre-accession agenda. Our Examinations business is now the biggest for IELTS and Young Learner tests in Europe.
Ankara, as the capital and seat of government, is the centre of our country management, including Finance and HR functions, and our partnership work in support of Turkey’s national reform initiatives in English, Education and Society. Istanbul, as Turkey’s commercial and creative hub, is the centre of our customer-facing services in English, Examinations, Education and the Arts and offers potential for increasing relationships with the private and international sectors. Our Marketing and Communications team operates from both offices. Our office in Istanbul also operates as a regional platform for Wider Europe, hosting colleagues from regional and global teams and providing hospitality services for regional meetings and events.
Accounting Specialist will report directly to the Head of Finance and Accounting.
İŞ TANIMI
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:Main responsibilities:
- Invoicing- Working closely with the exams teams to prepare the spreadsheet for invoicing of exams candidates
- Following up the schedule of Educational Professional exams, ensuring that the weekly invoicing lists are complete
- Preparing the document for Venue Staff Payments by receiving the approved pay forms from IELTS Post Test Coordinator and EPE Coordinator
- Assisting IELTS team to prepare payment vouchers for refunds
- Checking daily income and identifying invoiced and non-invoiced transactions on Exams Payment list.
- Requesting the necessary invoices from Ankara office and ensuring that they are sent to universities/institutions
- Supporting Exams Finance Business Partner on daily financial tasks
- Ensuring all financial data to be transferred to Finance Department in timely manner
- Keeping Exams Department’s Petty Cash
- OS01 role on SAP, PO and SO raiser
- Ensure all necessary financial documents are archived
- To perform other duties as delegated by Finance Manager and Head of Finance and Accounting

Holder of this post will manage internal and external relations with the local and regional staff, vendors, and London, India and regional colleagues.

Skills and Knowledge
- Analytical thinking about financial processes
- IT systems – good knowledge of MS office (advanced MS Excel), SAP

Experience&Qualifications
- At least 1-2 years working experience preferably in Accounting
- Preferably Degree in Finance or Accounting
- The position will be based in Istanbul.
- This is an indefinite position.
- Monthly gross base salary: J band – 2330-TL (gross) per month.
- The post is open to the citizens of Republic of Turkey or residents who hold the necessary work and residence permits.
