ABOUT THE ROLE:
For our fruit juice concentrate plant in North Macedonia, part of Zorlu Global, we are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the plant's engineering organization, covering mechanical maintenance, utilities, electrical, energy & automation and the technical warehouse, in a safe, efficient and sustainable way. The role owns the ERP Maintenance module, the technical infrastructure of new investments and end-to-end project delivery, while driving continuous improvement, cost savings, TPM and reliability. The Engineering Manager leads a team consisting of the Mechanical Maintenance & Utilities Supervisor, the Electrical, Energy & Automation Supervisor and the Technical Warehouse Officer, and reports to the Plant Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Lead the engineering organization covering mechanical maintenance, utilities, electrical, energy & automation and the technical warehouse; manage, develop and coach the team of supervisors and the technical warehouse officer.
– Lead the implementation, effective use and continuous development of the ERP Maintenance module; ensure equipment trees, maintenance plans, spare part data, work orders and maintenance records are fully defined and reported in the system.
– Ensure the safe, efficient and uninterrupted operation of steam boilers, condensate systems, refrigeration systems (ammonia/freon), compressed air systems, water treatment and purification systems, and other utility equipment.
– Monitor the consumption of electricity, steam, natural gas and compressed air; track specific energy consumption indicators (kWh/ton, m³ steam/ton, etc.) and identify and implement energy efficiency projects.
– Ensure the continuity and performance of PLC, SCADA and process control systems; manage calibration plans for measurement and control instruments and develop the automation infrastructure in line with new investment and modernization projects.
– Establish and manage planned, preventive and predictive maintenance programs (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis) for all mechanical and electrical equipment.
– Roll out TPM practices, especially autonomous maintenance, and strengthen production teams' equipment ownership; lead root cause analysis (RCA) of failures and develop permanent solutions to recurring problems.
– Track maintenance KPIs such as MTTR, MTBF, maintenance cost, equipment availability and planned maintenance compliance; set targets and drive continuous improvement.
– Build the technical infrastructure for new investments; manage technical specifications, bid evaluation and equipment selection, and deliver new facility, line, equipment and capacity expansion projects within scope, budget and schedule, including FAT, SAT and commissioning; plan the renewal of aging critical equipment based on lifecycle analyses.
– Foster a continuous improvement culture and identify, develop and implement saving projects to reduce energy, maintenance, labor, spare parts and consumables costs.
– Contribute to preparing maintenance and investment budgets; track CAPEX and OPEX spending, analyze budget performance and support technical procurement; manage the technical warehouse, critical spare parts, minimum stock levels and inventory accuracy.
– Set up and manage the shift maintenance and on-call organization to provide 24/7 technical support; prepare emergency response and business continuity plans for critical utility and equipment failures.
– Ensure occupational health & safety rules and permit-to-work procedures (hot work, work at height, confined space, lifting operations) are rigorously applied; ensure statutory periodic inspections of pressure vessels, lifting equipment and electrical installations are completed on time.
– Ensure maintenance and project activities comply with food safety and hygiene requirements; manage refrigerants, waste oil, chemicals and other maintenance-related waste in line with environmental regulations, in coordination with the EHS department.
– Manage contractors end-to-end, from selection and contracts to HSE compliance and performance evaluation; coordinate closely with production, quality, food safety, planning, EHS and procurement teams; build training, competency development and succession plans for the engineering team.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
– Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required); a master's degree is a plus.
– 8-10 years of experience in maintenance, engineering or operations functions in food/beverage manufacturing facilities, including at least 3-4 years at a managerial level.
– Advanced knowledge of mechanical maintenance and utility systems (steam, refrigeration, compressed air); good working knowledge of electrical/energy systems and automation (PLC/SCADA).
– End-to-end management experience on new investment, capacity expansion or line installation projects (technical specifications, FAT/SAT, commissioning) is a critical qualification.
– Experience with ERP/CMMS maintenance systems (SAP PM, etc.) and proficiency in MS Office and technical drawing/project software.
– Knowledge of or certification in TPM, predictive maintenance techniques (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.), OHS legislation and permit-to-work systems is a plus.
– Fluent English, both written and spoken (required); knowledge of Macedonian or Albanian is a plus.
– Strong leadership, team, budget (CAPEX/OPEX) and contractor management, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and crisis and emergency management skills.
– Willingness to work on-site in North Macedonia (Zorlu Global Fruit Juice Concentrate Plant).
– No restrictions on travel.
