Purpose of the Role
As a Production & HSE Engineer, you will play a key role in the construction, start-up, and operational ramp-up of our new factory. Following to successful ramp-up phase, you will take ownership of continuous improvement initiatives, process optimization, equipment reliability and long term sustainability of HSE and operational standards. From early equipment installation phases through full-scale production, you will ensure robust process design, production efficiency, and a strong HSE culture.
You will take ownership of production process optimization, mechanical systems and health & safety responsibilities, contributing directly to safe, efficient, and sustainable manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Process & Production Engineering
- Design, develop, configure, and optimize production processes from installation through start-up and certification.
- Support the selection, installation, and commissioning of machinery and production equipment, with a strong focus on mechanical systems.
- Monitor and continuously improve production performance, efficiency, and output quality.
- Own and monitor key production KPIs (OEE, yield, scrap rate, downtime) and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide day-to-day process optimization support to production teams.
Troubleshooting & Operational Support
- Assist production teams in troubleshooting process and equipment-related issues.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring production or equipment failures and implement preventive solutions.
- Monitor equipment performance through testing and process data analysis to ensure stable and reliable operations.
Projects & Start-up Activities
- Actively participate in new factory equipment installation, commissioning, and start-up activities.
- Contribute to or lead selected process improvement initiatives executed as CAPEX projects.
- Prepare and maintain process documentation, operating instructions, and technical guidelines.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements to production systems, workflows and practices to increase efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
- Develop and apply best practices to improve production rates, reduce waste and optimize cost of ownership.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Provide leadership and accountability for take responsibility for HSE activities once the factory is operational, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Perform risk assessments covering safety, environment, health, food safety, and HSE standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture, identify unsafe conditions, and take immediate action where required.
- Valid B Class OHS Certificate is strongly preferred.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teams to ensure an integrated approach to production and asset management.
- Act as a technical advisor on production processes and contribute to Nutreco technical standards.
- Stay up to date with developments in production engineering and HSE best practices.
- Support preventive maintenance, autonomous maintenance and reliability improvements initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Develop and standardize SOP’s, OPL and provide technical guidenca to production teams (Standardization & Operator Capability)
Who We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Industrial Engineering, Mechantronic Engineering, Electronic Engineering.
- 2–4 years of experience in production, process engineering, or manufacturing environments.
- Solid knowledge of machinery, production equipment, and construction mechanics.
- Hands-on experience in production environments; start-up or greenfield factory experience is a strong plus.
- Willingness to travel, especially during equipment manufacturing and installation phases.
- Strong understanding of process engineering, equipment performance, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Strong ownership mindset, analytical skills, and the ability to balance production efficiency with safety excellence.
