In Virtual i, we have a diverse and geographically distributed team. We are working remotely -since the beginning- for the last 3 years.

Job Overview

We are looking for a Data Scientist who will help solidify and enhance our current technical product using data modeling and software development within the Insurance industry. The ideal candidate should be familiar with a variety of data analysis tools, building and implementing predictive models, creating algorithms and simulations, and dealing with a diverse set of datasets. Specifically, the successful candidate should be familiar with supervised and unsupervised learning, neural networks, support vector machines, decision trees, ensemble methods, and particularly Bayesian belief networks. The candidate must feel comfortable working with other technical staff, and should be able to explain clearly and in general terms the mechanism behind a data analysis solution. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering patterns in data sets, ready to work with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

Responsibilities for Data Scientist

• Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.
• Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
• Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets..
• Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
• Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.

Qualifications for Data Scientist

• Strong problem solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
• Experience using statistical and machine learning languages and toolboxes (R, Python, PyTorch, Bayes Fusion, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from data sets.
• Knowledge of a variety of machine learning and data mining techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, Bayesian belief networks, support vector machines, random forests, boosting, association rule mining, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
• Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
• A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
• We’re looking for someone with 2-3 years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models, ideally with a Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field. 
• Coding knowledge and experience with several languages: C, C++, Java, Python. 
• Experience querying databases, e.g., SLQ.
• Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders.
