Marine Environmental Specialist

International Infrastructure & Construction Project

We are seeking an experienced Marine Environmental Specialist to lead environmental monitoring and compliance for coastal and marine works within a major international infrastructure project. This is a specialist role for someone with genuine marine construction experience who wants to work on complex coastal engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement and monitor Marine Environmental Management Plans and associated construction controls.

• Coordinate marine water quality monitoring, sampling and environmental field inspections.

• Review monitoring results against project limits and permit conditions and recommend appropriate actions.

• Monitor the environmental effects of coastal and marine construction activities, including dredging or piling where relevant.

• Verify controls for sediment disturbance, turbidity, waste, wastewater and accidental releases.

• Coordinate with ecology specialists on the protection of sensitive marine habitats and species.

• Inspect contractor activities and follow up on environmental non-compliance.

• Support marine pollution incident reporting, investigation and response planning.

• Maintain accurate monitoring records and prepare technical compliance reports.

• Advise construction teams on practical measures to minimise impacts on the marine environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering.

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience, including 3 years in marine environmental management on coastal or marine infrastructure projects.

• Strong knowledge of marine ecology, water quality monitoring and marine environmental management plans.

• Experience coordinating field measurements, sampling programmes and laboratory analysis.

• Ability to assess monitoring results and identify emerging environmental risks.

• Familiarity with applicable marine environmental legislation, permits and international project requirements.

• Experience inspecting marine construction activities and managing corrective actions.

• Good written and spoken English, including preparation of technical reports and coordination with international teams.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a marine construction environment.

• Relevant marine safety training would be advantageous.
