Position Summary
The Production Planner is responsible for developing, monitoring, and optimizing production plans to ensure customer demand is met while maintaining efficient inventory levels, production capacity utilization, and operational efficiency. The role coordinates closely with Production, Procurement, Warehouse, Quality, Maintenance, and Sales departments to ensure timely and cost-effective manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning
- Develop daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on sales forecasts and customer orders.
- Translate demand requirements into achievable production plans.
- Monitor production progress and revise schedules when necessary.
- Balance production capacity, labor availability, and material constraints.
- Optimize machine utilization and production efficiency.
Inventory Management
- Monitor raw material, packaging material, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory levels.
- Coordinate with Procurement to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Identify potential shortages or excess inventory and recommend corrective actions.
- Support inventory reduction initiatives while maintaining service levels.
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with Production, Warehouse, Procurement, Quality, and Sales teams.
- Communicate production priorities and schedule changes to relevant departments.
- Participate in daily and weekly production meetings.
- Coordinate with maintenance to minimize production interruptions.
Performance Monitoring
- Track production plan adherence and schedule attainment.
- Analyze production variances and identify root causes.
- Prepare and present production planning reports and KPIs.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance planning accuracy and efficiency.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve production planning processes.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Participate in ERP/MRP system implementation and optimization projects.
- Develop planning tools and reports to improve decision-making.
Compliance
- Ensure planning activities comply with company policies.
- Support food safety, quality, environmental, and occupational health & safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Production Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in production planning, supply chain, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience in food manufacturing is preferred.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems is required.
Technical Skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- ERP/MRP planning systems knowledge (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Navision, Netsuite, etc.).
- Understanding of production processes and inventory management.
- Knowledge of capacity planning and demand forecasting.
